Journal #8 National Geographic Video Response

What are the pros and cons of working for National Geographic as a photojournalist?  Also what skills does a person need to do this job?

Response:

The pros of being a photojournalist for National Geographic are; you get to travel and see the world, you get to experience and learn about different cultures, you get creative freedom and you get to photograph amazing things.

The cons of being a photojournalist for National Geographic are; you have to sometimes spend a long time in places that don't have the best living conditions, it's sometimes hard to find good picture taking opportunities, people sometimes risk their lives for their photos, you spend more time with customs and permits than you do actually taking pictures, you can easily get disease, it can be lonely at times, you have to learn to survive in harsh conditions, there are a lot of bugs, and you see a lot of suffering and horrible things.

The skills you need for the job would be obviously a good knowledge of photography and cameras, you need to be able to connect with people and you need to be willing to make sacrifices.
